Concrete Care & Maintenance
Polished concrete is extremely hard and durable; however, it is not "bulletproof". Walk off floor mats are recommended to help stop salts and other contaminants from being introduced to the surface of the floor.
We do apply a non-topical penetrating sealer which helps to protect the surface from water and oily stains. However, there are two type of spills/stains to be aware of:
- Reactive spills - these are acidic solutions (orange juice, ketchup, etc. that contain acid) which, if not cleaned up in a timely manner, can etch (damage) the surface and ruin the shine.
- Penetrating spills - these include oil, brake fluids, red wine, etc. which will actually attach to the concrete pores and leave a dark or colored spot. Again, this can be minimized if cleaned up in a timely manner.
