Common Questions

Common Resurfacing/Re-coloring Questions

Why should I resurface instead of replace?
Customers like us because we solve many home decorating and maintenance problems for as little as 30% of the cost of replacement. Our process creates a good-looking, long-lasting, and high-quality finish. Not only do we provide an economical new face-lift for your home - we can also increase its value!

I've never heard of this before. Is it new?
NO! Resurfacing has been done for decades. However, as with most industries, resurfacing technology has advanced rapidly in the last few years. Advances in coatings and application processes have greatly improved the durability and appearance of our finished products. Surface Solutions of Oklahoma, as a cutting-edge provider of resurfacing/re-coloring services, stays at the forefront of industry advancements.

My bathtub won't come clean. Will this help?
YES! Your bathtub won't come clean because, over time, the protective coating has worn away and exposed the pores of the porcelain. Dirt and scum get into these pores and are difficult or impossible to remove. The more you scrub, the more the protective coating is worn away. Resurfacing eliminates this problem. When the bathtub or sink is resurfaced, the new coating fills these pores. Then, instead of "sinking in", dirt and scum stay on TOP of the new surface and are easily cleaned with non-abrasive cleaners.

Can I change the color?
One of the great things about our process is that we apply the color of your choice, and we can custom-mix virtually any color you desire. We use the entire 600+ colors in the Sherwin-Williams palette. Standard colors are white, almond, bone, and china white.

Can you eliminate nicks, scratches, holes, or burn marks?
Most surface damage can be filled and beautifully restored.

What is the process?
The key to getting a good, long-lasting finish is the surface preparation. We always begin with a thorough cleaning. Then, we remove any contaminants that might be present such as old, loose caulk. It is at this point that we make any necessary repairs and sand any rough areas. Any remaining clean-up residue is then removed. Next, we tape, mask-off, and cover any adjacent areas to protect them from over-spray. A bonding agent is then applied over all surfaces to be resurfaced/re-colored, preparing them for our epoxy-based primer. We then coat all surfaces with two coats of a catalyzed, epoxy-based primer, and finish with two coats of a catalyzed, epoxy-based acrylic top-coat. This brings the final appearance to the customer's choice of a satin, semi-gloss, or high-gloss finish. All of our "Integrity Coatings" finishes are designed to last many years, are easy to clean, and come with a fully-guaranteed 2-year warranty (with the exception of sinks and floors).

How long does this process take?
Typically, most jobs can be completed in less than a day. This means that your "construction disruption" is just a day or two rather than the weeks required for many conventional remodeling projects. The new surface should cure for 48 hours before it is ready for use.

Is your process guaranteed?
YES! Our work is guaranteed for 2 years against peeling, cracking, crazing, and discoloration. With good care and maintenance, you can expect many years of enjoyment. Surface Solutions of Oklahoma will be happy to provide you with references from homeowners, hotels, apartment complexes, and many other satisfied customers.

How do I care for and maintain it?
Common sense and good maintenance are the key to long life for your new surfaces. This includes using non-abrasive cleaners, repairing faucet drips, avoiding rubber bath mats, and not using your countertop as a cutting board.

What do I have to do to prepare for your arrival?
Thoroughly clear and clean the surface(s) before we arrive. Perform any necessary maintenance, such as repairing leaky faucets, and replacing missing tile or grout. Appliances that are being re-colored should be cleaned and completely emptied (refrigerators and freezers should be defrosted).
